CAR AC REPAIR IN MATTHEWS, NC
A North Carolina summer without working air conditioning is miserable. When your car AC stops blowing cold, simply adding refrigerant is often a short-term fix, because refrigerant does not get used up. If it is low, it is leaking. Harris Cars Service Center finds the leak or failed part and fixes it properly so the cold air lasts.
SIGNS YOU NEED AC REPAIR
- Air from the vents is warm or only slightly cool.
- The AC is cold at highway speed but warm at idle or in traffic.
- A clicking, rattling or squealing noise when the AC is switched on.
- A musty or mildew smell from the vents.
- Water pooling inside the cabin, often on the passenger floor.
- Weak airflow even with the fan on high.
HOW IT WORKS
Your car's air conditioning is a sealed loop. The compressor pressurizes refrigerant, the condenser in front of the radiator sheds the heat, and the evaporator behind the dashboard absorbs heat from the cabin air. A problem anywhere in that loop shows up the same way at the vents: air that is not cold enough. The cause could be a leaking O-ring, a condenser damaged by road debris, a failed cooling fan, a compressor clutch that will not engage, or even a blend door actuator stuck on heat. Because a recharge alone does not fix any of those, we test the system before we add refrigerant. Modern refrigerants are also expensive and regulated, so finding the leak first saves you money and keeps refrigerant out of the air. Getting the AC checked in spring, before the first heat wave, usually means a shorter wait.
- 1 We measure vent temperature and check high-side and low-side system pressures.
- 2 The compressor, clutch, condenser, cooling fans and blend doors are checked for correct operation.
- 3 UV dye and electronic leak detection locate refrigerant leaks at hoses, seals, the condenser or the evaporator.
- 4 You get a written estimate for the repair, whether that is a seal, a hose, a condenser or a compressor.
- 5 After repair, the system is evacuated to remove moisture and recharged with the correct type and amount of refrigerant for your vehicle.
- 6 We confirm vent temperature and pressures are back in specification before you drive away.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can you just recharge my AC?
We can, but if the system is low it is leaking, and the cold air will fade again. We recommend a leak test first so you are not paying for refrigerant twice.
Why does my AC smell musty?
Moisture on the evaporator can grow mold and bacteria. A new cabin air filter and an evaporator cleaning treatment usually solve it.
My car uses R-1234yf. Can you service it?
Yes. Many vehicles from about 2015 onward use R-1234yf, and we service both R-1234yf and R-134a systems.
Do you fix heaters too?
Yes. No heat is usually a cooling system issue such as a stuck thermostat, low coolant or a clogged heater core, and we diagnose and repair those as well.
