OIL CHANGE IN MATTHEWS, NC

Clean oil is the cheapest insurance an engine can have. Harris Cars Service Center performs conventional, synthetic blend, full synthetic and high-mileage oil changes to your manufacturer's specification, and every one comes with a multi-point inspection so small problems get caught while they are still small.

SIGNS YOU NEED OIL CHANGE

  • Your oil change reminder or maintenance light has come on.
  • The sticker on your windshield says you are due, or past due, by date or mileage.
  • The oil on the dipstick looks dark and gritty, or the level is low.
  • Louder engine ticking or knocking, especially on a cold start.
  • A smell of burning oil, or oil spots under the car.
  • You are heading out on a long trip and want peace of mind first.

HOW IT WORKS

Engine oil does three jobs at once. It lubricates moving parts, carries heat away from the hottest areas of the engine, and holds dirt and combustion by-products in suspension until the filter can trap them. Over time heat breaks the oil down and the additives get used up, so it protects less even when the level looks fine. Modern engines with turbochargers, timing chains and variable valve timing are especially sensitive to oil that is old or the wrong grade, and the repair bills for sludge or a stretched timing chain are far higher than the cost of regular changes. Because the car is already on the lift, the oil change is also the best moment to spot a leaking gasket, a cracked belt or a worn tire before it leaves you stranded. We note anything we find and show it to you, and nothing gets added to the bill unless you approve it.

  1. 1 We look up your vehicle's exact oil specification and capacity. Many modern engines require a specific synthetic grade.
  2. 2 Old oil is drained completely and the drain plug is inspected and resealed.
  3. 3 A new oil filter is installed and the engine is refilled with fresh oil to the correct level.
  4. 4 While the car is on the lift, we perform a multi-point inspection: belts, hoses, brakes, suspension, tires and visible leaks.
  5. 5 Fluids are topped off and tire pressures are set to the door-placard specification.
  6. 6 Your maintenance reminder is reset and you get a sticker with your next service date and mileage.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How often should I change my oil?

Follow your owner's manual first. Many newer cars on full synthetic go 5,000 to 10,000 miles between changes, while older engines and conventional oil are usually closer to 3,000 to 5,000. Short trips, towing and Carolina summer heat count as severe service and shorten the interval.

Do I really need synthetic oil?

If your manufacturer specifies it, yes. Using the wrong oil can affect engine wear and even your warranty. If synthetic is optional, we will explain the trade-off and let you choose.

Will an independent shop oil change affect my factory warranty?

No. You are free to have routine maintenance done at any qualified shop. We use oil and filters that meet your manufacturer's specification and record the service on your invoice so you have proof.

Do I need an appointment?

Booking online is the fastest way to get in and out, but call us and we will fit you in when we can.
