TIRES & WHEEL ALIGNMENT IN MATTHEWS, NC
Tires are the only part of your car that touches the road, and alignment decides how evenly they wear. Harris Cars Service Center handles new tire installation, rotation, balancing, flat repair, TPMS sensors and precision wheel alignment, so your car tracks straight and your tires last as long as they should.
SIGNS YOU NEED TIRES & ALIGNMENT
- The car drifts or pulls to one side on a straight road.
- The steering wheel is off-center when you drive straight.
- Vibration through the steering wheel or seat at highway speed, a common sign of an out-of-balance wheel.
- Uneven tire wear, such as one edge worn faster than the other.
- The tire pressure (TPMS) light is on.
- Tread at or near the wear bars, or cracks and bulges in the sidewall.
HOW IT WORKS
Alignment and tires go together. When the wheels are not pointing where they should, the tires scrub sideways a little with every mile, which wears the tread unevenly and costs fuel economy. A single hard pothole hit can knock alignment out of specification, and you may not notice anything other than a slight pull or a crooked steering wheel. Balance matters too: a wheel that is out of balance by a fraction of an ounce can shake at highway speeds and wear suspension parts. If your car has driver-assistance features such as lane keeping, correct alignment also helps those systems work as designed. When we recommend new tires, we explain the options for your car, your driving and your budget, and we never pressure you into a premium tire you do not need.
- 1 We inspect tread depth, wear pattern, sidewalls and pressures on all four tires.
- 2 The wear pattern tells us whether alignment, balance or worn suspension parts are the cause.
- 3 For new tires, we recommend options for your vehicle and budget, then mount and balance them.
- 4 For alignment, we measure camber, caster and toe against the manufacturer specification and adjust them back into range.
- 5 TPMS sensors are checked and relearned so the warning light works correctly.
- 6 A road test confirms the car tracks straight with a centered steering wheel.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How often should I rotate my tires?
Every 5,000 to 7,500 miles is a good rule for most cars, which conveniently lines up with many oil change intervals.
When do I need an alignment?
After new tires, after hitting a big pothole or curb, after suspension or steering work, or any time the car pulls or the wheel is off-center.
How do I know my tires are worn out?
Tires are legally worn out at 2/32 of an inch of tread, but wet-weather grip drops well before that. Try the penny test: if you can see the top of Lincoln's head, it is time to start shopping.
Can you repair a nail in my tire?
Usually, if the puncture is in the tread area and not too large. Punctures in or near the sidewall cannot be safely repaired.
